Gekko en Kat art scavenger hunt – May 29 – June 29 2026

As we grow older, there is increasingly less room for playfulness and wonder. Yet, these are vital components of who we are as human beings. Gekko en Kat aims to bring more of these qualities out into the world. Vacant and empty storefronts and buildings will be transformed to showcase the work of artists from around the world. Presenting works based on the themes of curiosity, playfulness, whimsy, adventure, and wonder.

I have a particular interest in archiving, especially creating a personal archive, and I wanted to combine this with my love of small things and free art! So I created an archive box for participants to find and from which they could take a piece of art home with them; where it will become part of their personal archive. Something they can touch, look at, talk about and share with other people.

As empty storefronts are not the most beautiful thing to look at, I wanted to use this as an opportunity to bring some of the local beauty into the space. A reminder that beauty can be found everywhere, sometimes it’s obvious, sometimes we have to hunt for it, but it is there. I used the cyanotype process to print my local photographic work on repurposed natural fabric (a playful nod to Hengelo’s textile history).

I was also one of several artists who created pieces to be hidden in local record store – Elpees van Kees. Where people will stumble across them.
